YES, YOU REALLY DO NEED TO VISIT THE DENTIST EVERY 6 MONTHS! AND HERE’S WHY.

Do I really need to visit the dentist every 6 months? Does my dental health really change that much? We get asked these questions all the time and the answer, to both, is yes! In fact, most dentists really recommend a checkup every 3-4 months instead. Keep reading to find out why.

PREVENTION, PREVENTION, PREVENTION!

The tissue in the mouth changes faster than anywhere else in the body and 6 months is all it takes for that cavity you put off to become a root canal! Professional cleanings are paramount in preventing tooth decay, gum disease, and plaque and tartar buildup. When you visit the dentist regularly, we’re able to catch problems when they’re small, before it turns into a more invasive and expensive procedure.

IGNORANCE IS NOT BLISS, KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

Your dental checkup is a great reminder on proper techniques like how to floss and brush effectively. It’s also an opportunity to stay up to date about changes in the industry and new products and treatments. We also use checkups as an opportunity to educate our patients about the current state of their dental health and engage them in their treatment plan. We have to work together in order for you to reach your goals, so being consistent with your checkups is crucial!

YOU DON’T REALIZE HOW MUCH YOUR DIET AFFECTS YOUR DENTAL HEALTH!

As Americans, we consume high amounts of sugar and acidic foods which demineralizes our teeth and breaks down our natural barriers, making our teeth vulnerable to decay. Soda, energy drinks, processed foods, and candy are the main culprits. But there are also many fruits and even some vegetables that you may not be aware of. Lemons, oranges, and pineapple are some of the obvious ones, but grapes, blueberries, and apples are also highly acidic and contain sugar (granted natural sugar, but still sugar). Vegetables like corn, cabbage, mushrooms, collard greens, and even broccoli are slightly more acidic. Regular professional cleanings are vital in preventing deterioration of your teeth and gums from harmful food particles.

Visiting the dentist is a much more pleasant experience when you’re consistent with your checkups! We catch problems when they’re minor, ultimately saving you more time and money. If you’re overdue for a dental checkup, don’t wait any longer! Contact us now to schedule.
