SEDATION

In our office, we use nitrous oxide, often referred to as “laughing gas”, for conscious sedation which is a colorless, odorless to sweet-smelling, inorganic gas. The combination of nitrous oxide and oxygen is a safe and effective way to manage pain and anxiety in dentistry. It’s inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose and is not intended to put you to sleep. You should start to feel the effects of the gas within a few short minutes. You may feel light-headed or a tingling sensation in your arms and legs, some people say their arms and legs feel heavy. Ultimately, you should feel calm and comfortable. The effects of the gas wear off soon after the mask is removed.
